This August singer-songwriter Amelia Curran will be launching her “Somewhere in Newfoundland” tour with an appearance at the Ship Pub in St. John’s on Friday, August 3rd before embarking on regional tour that will take her to Ferryland, Brigus, Pouch Cove and Carbonear before she makes an appearance in Eastport at the Writer’s Festival there.

Support for her music has been growing since the release of her fourth collection of original songs War Brides in 2006. Writer and broadcaster Kevin Kelly has called her “Newfoundland’s next great female songwriter,” noting that the St. John’s native, now living in Nova Scotia, creates “music that is instantly satisfying, and in a world of folk singers, Curran’s music is a cut above.”

Her songs combine “a quicksilver sweetness with wry, homegrown wisdom” says one music critic, while Stephen Cooke, writing in the Halifax Chronicle Herald admits that her “haunting melodies immediately get stuck in the brain,” along with “incisive lyrics that always cut to the heart of the equation.”
